Counted as one of the most representative performers in the recent history of Italian golf, Matteo Manassero flies to Paris for his second participation in the Olympic Games, with the goal of being the first Italian to win a medal in the Five Circles in a discipline that, since 2016, è returned to the event calendar on a permanent basis after more than a century of absence.
Matteo Manassero è was born April 19, 1993, in Negrar, in the province of Verona. His interest in golf, fueled by his father and, è developed through the inspiration of legendary Spanish golfer Severiano Ballesteros. From a very young age, Matteo showed such extraordinary talent that in 2009, at only 16 years old, he è became the youngest winner of the British Amateur Championship.
In 2010, Manassero made his debut at the Augusta Masters, becoming the youngest person in history to make the cut and finishing 36th, an outstanding result for a European amateur. Shortly after he turned professional, he won the Castellò Masters in Spain, setting a new precocity record as the youngest winner in DP World Tour history, at 17 years and 188 days.
His career continued to shine with other significant victories, including the prestigious BMW PGA Championship in 2013, considered by many to be the 'fifth Major'. He also participated in the Rio Games in 2016, finishing 27th. From there on, however, Manassero went through a rather long period of hardship, finding himself back at the right time: in March 2024, in fact, he won the Jonsson Workwear Open in South Africa, a triumph that brought him back into the spotlight.
His determination and the support of his wife Francesca, a crucial figure in the most difficult moments, played a key role in his return to prominence. Qualifying for the Paris 2024 Olympics further confirmed his newfound competitiveness. Now, for Manassero, comes another, very important opportunity to take a definitive revenge.
