Tadej Pogacar could forgo the Olympic Games
The road cycling competitions of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games may not count on a star player: Tadej Pogacar, winner this season of the Giro d'Italia and the Tour de France, would in fact be considering the possibility of resting after his exertions on the roads of the Grande Boucle in order to aim for another goal, the World Championships in Zurich scheduled for late September.
This is what emerges from statements made, to 'Sky Sport' by Alex Carera, manager of the Slovenian champion: "We don't know if Pogacar will be there in Paris 2024,” he said. “We have to decide if it will be the case to take a few weeks to rest and aim directly at the World Championships".
The men’s road cycling races will be held on Sunday, July 27, for what concerns the time trial and on Saturday, August 3, for what concerns the road race. At the Olympic level, Pogacar boasts a bronze medal, won three years ago in Tokyo in the road race won by Ecuador's Richard Carapaz, ahead of Belgium's Wout van Aert.
The World Championships will take center stage in two months, however, on the roads of German-speaking Switzerland: the best performers in the Men Elite category will compete on Sept. 22 in a 46-kilometer time trial, while a week later, on Sept. 29, it will be the turn of the queen race, the 273-kilometer road race starting in Winterthur and finishing at Sechseläutenplatz in Zurich.
