Andy Murray announces retirement

Just days before the start of the Paris Olympic Games, Andy Murray, through a message on his "X" account, officially announced his retirement from playing tennis at the end of the Olympic event.

"I arrived in Paris for my last tennis tournament. The weeks I spent playing for Great Britain were by far the most memorable of my career and I am extremely proud to be able to do so for the'last time" these are the words of the former world number one.

The 37-year-old Scot won Wimbledon gold during the London Olympics in 2012 and confirmed the title in Rio de Janeiro in 2016. In Paris, in his fifth Olympic participation, he will star in both the singles and doubles draw with Daniel Evans, and then put an end to a career heavily affected by injuries.

Murray’s accomplishments include a victory at the 2012 US Open and two Wimbledon triumphs in 2013 and 2016. The Glasgow native, in addition, è remained at the top of the ATP Ranking for an impressive 41 weeks.
