In Kitzbuehel, Matteo Berrettini goes into the quarterfinals
In the second round of the ATP 250 in Kitzbuehel, Matteo Berrettini, world number 50 and fresh from his triumph in Gstaad, beat Chilean left-hander Alejandro Tabilo, number 21 and the tournament’s number 2 seed, with a score of 7-6 7-6 in an hour and 48 minutes of play.
In the first set there’è not a single break ball, indeed, the two protagonists in their service turns lose only ten points, six Berrettini and four Tabilo. It then goes to the tiebreak, in which, at 4-4 without a minibreak, the Chilean commits a double fault and Matteo also wins the next two points, closing the partial in his favor.
In the first game of the second set, the Roman recovered from 0-30 on his serve with four consecutive points. In the next game Tabilo goes 0-40 conceding the first three break points of the entire match, cancels them and then saves himself by also cancelling a fourth one. In the sixth game the Chilean again goes 0-40, cancels a break point but on the second one he has to surrender.
It seems done and instead Berrettini, while serving for the match on 5-3, gets counter-brecked and on 5-5 even cancels a ball that would have meant the second consecutive break. Another tie-break then: the blue rises from 1-2 to 5-2, on 6-3 he sees two cancelled but the third, thanks to a winning first, è the good one. In the next round Matteo will face the US Nicolas Moreno de Alboran, world number 143.
