United States, Croatia, Montenegro, Romania and Greece: these are the national teams that Italy men water polo will face in Group A of the Paris 2024 Olympic tournament, between Sunday, July 28 and Monday, August 5 at the Paris Acquatic Centre: the Settebello, recent finalist at the World Championships in Doha, starts with great ambitions, as coach Sandro Campagna confirms to the Federnuoto channels.
"The last phase of preparation è has been very positive – said the coach who, from the poolside, guided Italy to the silver medal in London 2012 and the bronze in Rio 2016 -. In Syracuse we had two friendly matches and finalized what concerns the physical aspect. After two days of rest, we had three training sessions in Ostia. The last one very good because we tried a few things in anticipation of Sunday's debut with the United States".
"Expectations are high toward our team,” Campagna later confirmed.
Since Tokyo we have always been in the medal zone or very close. We are in the lot of teams that can aspire to medal. That said, there are at least nine very competitive teams. It will be a battle both in the rounds and from the quarterfinals onward".
"Match after match we have to grow on the level of individualityà, of play, of concentration. These are fifteen days to be lived all with great enthusiasm, lightness and concentration" concluded the former centerboa, who as a player was among the protagonists of the resounding gold won by Italy in Barcelona 1992.
