Novak Djokovic vents on Jannik Sinner and Matteo Berrettini
Novak Djokovic commented polemically on the Olympic rules, citing the example of Jannik Sinner and Matteo Berrettini: the Roman, a former Top 10 world ranking player, could not be in Paris after the South Tyrolean forfeit. The Serbian tennis player was outspoken after his victory against Australian Ebden, who had not played singles for two years and lost outright to the former world number one, almost embarrassed by his superiority.
"I really don't understand the rules. They are not really logical to me. I don't think it's a good image for the sport, actually. There were a lot of singles players who had a lot of time, who could have been called to come", said Nole.
"I hope the ITF and the Olympic organization will consider changing this rule. For example in the case of Sinner, Berrettini now that he is well physically could have taken his place".
However, the IOC has explained that there is a logistical problem behind the rules, which does not allow the addition of new athletes close to the start of the Games.
