The updated medal table

Second day at the Olympics in which medals will be awarded. On Saturday Italy took home three, one silver, with Filippo Ganna, and two bronze. Nicolò Martinenghi on Sunday struck the first gold of the Italian expedition, surprisingly winning the final of the men’s 100 breaststroke.

GUARDA THE UPDATED PARIS MEDAL

In the men’s cycling individual time trial Filippo Ganna gave Italy its first medal by winning silver behind Belgium’s Remco Evenepoel, gold, and ahead of another Belgian Wout Van Aert, bronze. In the evening two Italian bronze medals: Luigi Samele in individual saber and the boys 4×100 freestyle men.

Italy has won a total of 40 medals at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, setting a new record for haul in a single edition of the Games. Ten gold medals, as many silver medals and 20 bronze medals as well.

Rising on the highest step; highest step of the podium in Japan were Marcell Jacobs – Men’s 100 meters, Gianmarco Tamberi – Men’s high jump, Massimo Stano – Men’s 20 km march, Antonella Palmisano – Women’s 20 km march, Men’s 4×100 relay – Lorenzo Patta, Marcell Jacobs, Fausto Desalu, Filippo Tortu, Federica Cesarini and Valentina Rodini – Rowing, women’s lightweight doubles, Francesco Lamon, Simone Consonni, Jonathan Milan and Filippo Ganna – Cycling, men’s team pursuit, Luigi Busà – Karate, kumite -75kg and Vito Dell’Aquila – Taekwondo, -58kg.

In Japan, Manfredi Rizza – Canoe, K1 20, Vanessa Ferrari – Artistic gymnastics, individual free body, Elisa Longo Borghini – Cycling, women’s road race, Gregorio Paltrinieri – Swimming, men’s 800m freestyle, won a flattering second place, Men’s 4×100 freestyle relay – Alessandro Miressi, Thomas Ceccon, Lorenzo Zazzeri and Manuel Frigo, Diana Bacosi – Shooting, women’s skeet, Daniele Garozzo – Fencing, men’s individual foil, Men’s saber team – Luca Curatoli, Aldo Montano, Enrico Berrè and Luigi Samele, Maria Centracchio – Judo, -63kg female, Giorgia Bordignon – Weightlifting, 64kg female.
