Paris 2024 Olympics: last quarter fatal to Setterosa, France wins
France-Italy 9-8
The Italian women's national water polo team begins its adventure in Paris 2024 with a narrow defeat: the Setterosa è in fact, it was beaten 9-8 by host France, good at coming back from a goal deficit with which it had started the last period of play. Zero points then for the Azzurre, who must still rank among the top four, in a group of five, to go to the quarterfinals.
Two goals by Roberta Bianconi were not enough for the girls coached by Carlo Silipo to succeed, nor were the individual goals scored by Chiara Tabani, Giuditta Galardi, Sofia Giustini, Dafne Bettini, Domitilla Picozzi and Claudia Roberta Marletta. Deciding the match è was in fact a 3-1 partial in the last quarter, with which the French overturned the 6-7 at the end of the third period.
France prevailed thanks to a hat trick by Juliette Dhaullin, two goals by Lara Andres and Ema Vernoux, and a goal scored by Louise Giullet and Orsolya Hertzka. For the transalpine women, led by coach Theodoros Lorantos, it was the second match in the group: in the first one they had lost 15-6 to Spain.
Italy, on the other hand, has three more games ahead of them: on Wednesday, July 31, they will face the United States, on Friday, Aug. 2, Greece and on Sunday, Aug. 4, Spain, in the last day of Group B. In Group A, however, there are Australia, Canada, China, Holland and Hungary.
