Paris 2024 Olympics, Italvolley concedes encore with Egypt
Everything easy for De Giorgi’s team, which now awaits Poland
After the splendid victory in the opener with Brazil, Italy also won the second match in Pool B. Dry 3-0 win over Egypt in an hour and 17 minutes of the match. The tough Parisian riser (match started at 9:00 a.m.) turned out to be positive for the Azzurri who dominated the match for long stretches. It was a clear and convincing victory with a Giannelli in top form.
Great start by the Azzurri who immediately put the Egyptian reception in great difficulty. The higher technical rate of De Giorgi’s team is worth 25-15 and 1-0 in the set tally. The’Italy è concentrated. The second partial also starts in the sign of’Italy, which immediately runs away on 4-1. The wall superiority of the Italians è evident. In an instant, comes the 25-16 that brings Italy to 2-0.
With their backs to the wall, comes a minimal reaction from Egypt (definitely positive in the recent challenge with Poland). It is merely a flash in the pan. The difficulties, objective, at the reception level of the Egyptians are an invitation for De Giorgi’s boys who run away again in the score (7-3). The plot of the third set does not change with Italy managing the desperate but valid attempt of the Egyptians to really get into the game. At 22-20 for the Azzurri, it was Romanò who drew the opponents back and, in fact, closed the score. It ends 25-20. A dry 3-0 that confirms how focused Italy is in these Olympics. The only blemish on the splendid Italian performance was too many errors in the batting (17).
Strengthened by two victories out of two matches played (certain the passage to the quarterfinals), Italy will now face, for the last match valid for group B, the very strong Poland. The match è scheduled for Sunday, Aug. 4 at 5 p.m.
