Men’s race postponed to the morning of July 31
Now è it has been established: the Seine is proving to be a problem for Olympic organizers. Despite a 1.4-billion-euro investment to clean it up and make it "usable", the Parisian river continues to create disruptions for those who should jump into its waters to hold their competitions.
As reported by World Triathlon, the men’s triathlon race, originally scheduled for today morning, è has been postponed to July 31, also in the morning (immediately after the women’s race). The reason? Tests on the Seine's water were negative. The river, as of today, è still too polluted to give the green light and allow athletes to jump into the water.
"After a meeting to assess water quality held tonight at 03:30 by the Paris 2024 organizers, World Triathlon representatives, IOC technicians and doctors, Meteo France and the Paris prefecture, it è was decided to postpone the men’s triathlon", the statement read.
A very hard blow to the organization of the Olympics. The feeling è that choosing the Seine as a location for certain races was a gamble. Controversy is mounting again in France over the huge amount of money invested to reclaim it. In the Olympic village, many angry athletes, at the moment especially those in triathlon. "No way, the athlete must messere in the center", the harsh words of Antonio Rossi, canoe legend, to Sky Sport.
