Paris 2024 Olympics, Gaia Giovannini keeps dreaming
The words of Gaia Giovannini
Julio Velasco’s Azzurri are preparing for their last engagement in Group C, scheduled for tomorrow (9 a.m., live on RaiSport+HD, Eurosport, DAZN) against the European champions Turkey. The Azzurri and the Turkish team will compete for the first place in the Pool, in fact, both of them had 2 victories in the previous challenges. The last confrontation between the two teams dates back to last May 18, when in the first week of the VNL Danesi and her teammates won in Antalya 3-1 (25-27, 25-21, 25-21, 25-19).
The’s only Olympic confrontation between Italy and Turkey was played at the Tokyo Games: on July 27, 2021, success of the Azzurri 3-1 (25-22, 23-25, 25-20, 25-15) in the group stage.
Ahead of the important challenge this morning Velasco’s girls held a technical session on the training court.
With less than 24 hours to go before the match, these are the statements of the hitter Gaia Giovannini, who passed in a few months from her debut in the blue team, to the convocation for the Games: "The Olympics I think is the dream of every player, now forò I am no longer living it as a dream, once you are in it the&39;attention è all focused on achieving the set goal. I as well as the team are reasoning match by match, every challenge è very important, è this is my way of living the competition. Definitely è an experience that will remain with me forever, so I am so eager to enjoy it all round, without, however, ever forgetting that the most important thing è important è the result we will get".
"Tomorrow we are expecting a very difficult opponent like Turkey, it will not be an easy match, but we come from two matches in which we showed good volleyball, especially I think in the last match with Holland. Against Turkey it will be crucial to take an extra step, also because at stake is the first place in the group. On a personal level I have integrated well both with my teammates and with the staff, I have not had any kind of problem. I can say that I am the newcomer, forò, you can see that this group has been playing together for many years. Until a few months ago I would have absolutely never thought that I would be summoned for the Olympics, especially also because of the path that I have taken. To go in a few weeks from debuting in a blue jersey, to being here in Paris è something incredible. At the beginning of the season, I had a few training sessions, then I was called for the last leg of the VNL and the Bangkok Finals. È it was all really unexpected and for this reason maybe even more beautiful. As I have always said, I am convinced that the path I have lived through has helped me to be a little bit more serene, I think if I had expected to get into the 12, maybe I would have had a different kind of attitude. When I am given the opportunity to enter the field, I try to live it without too much anxiety".
