Judo Italy's adventure in the team event at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games continues. After a 4-1 success against Hungary, the Azzurri won in the decisive tiebreaker against Georgia, pulling off a pass to the quarterfinals and keeping their medal hopes alive.
The match started immediately uphill for Italy with Odette Giuffrida who could not do anything against Eteri Liparteliani, who won by ippon in just 19 seconds, catching the Roman by surprise with an impproved Ko Soto Gari. Trailing 1-0, the Azzurri placed the comeback first with Manuel Lombardo and then with Kim Polling, who beat Lasha Shavdatuashvili and Eter Askilashvili, respectively.
Georgia, however, regained parity with Lasha Bekauri, who s'imposes himself on Christian Parlati. Subsequently, the Italian team regains the advantage, as the Georgian athlete is disqualified for a prohibited blow. He failed to close the games Gennaro Pirelli, who was mocked with 14 seconds to go by the ippon scored by Ilia Sulamanidze.
In the decisive tiebreaker è Manuel Lombardo to place the decisive point against Shavdatuashvili, giving Italy a pass to the quarterfinals where it will face Uzbekistan.
