Official, Giacomo Bonaventura starts again with Al Shabab
At 34 years old, the former Italian national team member gets back into the game in Saudi Pro League
In the end, he chose Saudi Arabia. Among the several offers he received, especially from Italy, none fully convinced him. Hence, the decision to change the footballing world completely. Bonaventura, after a very long career in Serie A (380 games in the Italian top flight, wearing prestigious jerseys such as those of Atalanta, AC Milan and Fiuorentina), has decided to put himself back in the game in the rich Saudi Pro League.
With his adventure with the Viola over, the 1989-class midfielder has accepted a proposal from Al Shabab'Al Shab. The same Saudi club, which has black and white as its predominant colors, made Bonaventura's arrival official. The former Blue signed a contract until June 2025 with an option for next season.
His long experience will come in handy at Al Shabab, a club that has not won the top Arab league since the 2011/12 season. He will find in the roster such interesting elements as Carrasco and Carlos Junior.
It now remains to be seen whether other Italian players will follow 34-year-old Bonaventura to Saudi Arabia, a league that continues to attract more and more players, not only of advanced age as may be the case with the former Fiorentina midfielder.
