Paris 2024 Olympics: Giovanni Malagò clear on blue medalist
At Tokyo 2020 Italy won 40 medals
.
Before the start of the Paris Games, Malagò had explained how the goal was to try to do better than Tokyo 2020, an Olympics in which Italy won 40 medals (10 gold, 10 silver and 20 bronze). A goal that is still achievable, although, especially in some disciplines, the Azzurri listed as possible medalists have been lost along the way.
Coni’s number one is not è at all worried looking at Italy’s medal tally in Paris 2024 (7 golds, 10 silvers, 5 bronzes): "The important thing is to be competitive in more sports disciplines, we are proving it, so far we have gone better on the heavy medals, in absolute something less. The accounts are made at the end", his clear words to Casa Italia.
Malagò pointed out that the very important medals in tennis (a gold with the Errani-Paolini duo and a bronze with Musetti) have "compensated" for a few too many disappointments in athletics where, probably, something more was expected in terms of medals won.
Still the CONI president also said he expects a lot from sailing and gymnastics, two disciplines in which Italy has a very good chance of medaling. In short, the hope è that a final Olympics from "great Italy" will come to try to improve on the excellent result achieved in Tokyo three years ago.
