Tennis: Flavio Cobolli loses his first ATP final in D.C.
Big jump in ATP rankings for young azure
Cobolli, class of 2002, reached, at the Washington tournament, the first ATP final of his career. Unfortunately, the last act with Korda, did not è go as he dreamed, as he lost the match. After winning the first set (6-4), the blue è ran out of energy, so much so that the opponent, son of art, è imposed himself in the next two partials rather easily: 6-2, 6-0).
There remains the satisfaction of having played the first final on the circuit that propels him, for the first time, into the top 40 of the ATP ranking (33° place overall). Cobolli è arrived at the finals with the red light on in terms of physical energy, as he candidly explained at the end of the match with Korda.
"Well, guys I am very sorry for how è the match ended but I was dead", his clear words. Smiling, however, is Sebastian Korda who, a full 32 years later, wins the ATP 500 tournament in Washington as did his father Petr, winner of two Slam events, one in singles (Australian Open 1998) and one in doubles, with Edberg, (Australian Open 1996).
Cobolli takes home an important final to believe even more in his qualities. At 22 years old, he is starting to play at a high level, proving he can stay at certain levels. Having reached his first ATP final, he now raises the bar, trying to win his first tournament on the circuit.
