Paris 2024 Olympics, Imane Khelif case: Giovanni Malagò not è surprised
During an interview given to the microphones of the "Stampa", CONI number one Giovanni Malagò, among other topics, bluntly commented on the numerous criticisms received by Algerian boxer Imane Khelif after her encounter with Angela Carini. In addition, the sports executive also commented on Gianmarco Tamberi's condition and the controversy surrounding the pollution of the Seine.
"I received from the highest medical authority of the IOC the document on the regularity of Imane Khelif’s participation in the women’s Olympic tournament. The rest is chatter that has overwhelmed Angela. I am not going to make any accusations, but I am not at all surprised that the issue has become political. Everything now is being exploited by politics regardless of left or right" began the CONI president.
"Angela showed me the pressure she è been subjected to in the days leading up to the meeting with the IBA and I told her not to pay too much attention to it and just think about continuing to fight" continued the sports executive.
"Gimbo called me Sunday morning, explained the situation and then è burst into tears. I told him 'holy crap Gimbo, we have seen it all and what do we do now, give up? Today will be a day of decanting, checking the condition and then he will be ready to go on the platform" added the Rome native about Tamberi’s condition.
"I don’t know if it’s true that they spent 1.4 billion to reclaim the Seine, but è chiato that the project is not limited to the Olympics, but looks ahead. It is one thing è to do a short race like a triathlon, another è to swim 10 km in it. Now the situation è borderline. I am confident that it will race è eventually. So much so that I asked, as a Cio member, to do the awarding of that race" concluded Giovanni Malagò.
