Jannik Sinner restarts with a victory
Jannik Sinner è returned to the court and returned to victory, this time not in singles but in doubles. Together with Jack Draper, the world number one overcame the Belgian pair of Gille and Vliegen in the first round of the Montreal Masters 1000 in three sets: 6-0, 6-7 (3), 10-8.
After a first set dominated by Sinner and Draper, which presaged a quick conclusion of the match, the situation è changed in the second set. A few errors on the part of the Italian-English duo allowed the Belgians to stay in the running and win the tie-break.
In the super tie-break, Sinner and Draper took a chance, finding themselves trailing 4-7, but managed to come back and close out the match. Sinner, after his absence from the Paris Olympic Games due to tonsillitis, è looked decidedly toned up.
Playing doubles was helpful for him to regain his match rhythm ahead of his singles debut, scheduled for Wednesday, when he will defend the title he won in 2023 in Toronto, his first career Masters 1000.
