U.S. wins the final and the medal table
A show of strength by the United States, which won the gold medal in women's basketball and the medal standings thanks to a tight 67-66 victory over France. In the match for bronze, Australia won against Belgium 85-81.
The U.S., like China, won 40 golds but the gap in silver medals (44 vs. 27) allows the star-studded delegation to finish ahead of everyone.
It was a hard-fought final between the United States and France: A'ja Wilson (absolute protagonist with 21 points and 13 rebounds) and her teammates struggled to the last against a well-prepared and organized lineup. Thrill in the final when Gabby Williams tried with the desperation shot but stepped on the line and drove the U.S. crazy with joy.
