Cincinnati: Lorenzo Sonego stops one step short of the main draw

No dice for Lorenzo Sonego. The Piedmontese, engaged in the qualifying round of the Cincinnati Masters 1000, è surrendered in three sets to Jaume Munar, number 89 in the ATP ranking, in the last and decisive round. The Spaniard è won with a final score of 6-3 3-6 6-2 after two hours and five minutes of play.
Sonego got off to a bad start and gave up his serve in the fourth game (1-3). The Azure struggles to get into the match and also suffers the second break, finding himself down 1-5. Lorenzo manages to recover a break of disadvantage but it is not enough: the Spaniard cashes the first set 6-3.
In the second partial came Sonego’s reaction: the Turinese player snatched service from Munar in the fourth game and kept the break lead until the final 6-3. In the last and decisive set forò the Azure goes down immediately (1-3), Munar concedes nothing on serve and repeats the break in the eighth game that is worth the 6-2 final.
Sonego thus misses access to the main draw of the 'Cincinnati Open' in which as many as five Italians will be involved: Jannik Sinner, Lorenzo Musetti, Matteo Arnaldi, Luciano Darderi and Matteo Berrettini.
