Jannik Sinner wants to be first in Cincinnati
The South Tyrolean ready to make history
The Cincinnati Open è a very old tournament (first edition in the very distant 1899). It is the last Masters 1000 before the US Open. An important test for those aiming to do big things at the U.S. Slam. Clearly, Sinner, the world No. 1, è also in the main draw, ready to prove that the defeat against Rublev in Montreal è already forgotten.
The South Tyrolean reassured everyone about his physical condition. There'è no hip problem but just a desire to get back on the court and do what he does best: play tennis at the highest level. Lots of motivation to do well at the Cincinnati Open. First and foremost, Sinner has to "defend" his world No. 1 status and then there's the desire to make history in Cincinnati.
In fact, the men's roll of honors for the tournament does not include any Italian nationals. To be fair, no Italian è ever even made it to the finals (Pennetta, in the women's field, won the semifinals in 2009). Obviously, Sinner has all the makings of the first ever Italian to make his mark at the Cincinnati Open.
The Italian presence at the U.S. Masters 1000 è full-bodied. The flagship è represented by Sinner. Welcomed by stars, as è is normal given that he è is No. 1 in the ATP rankings, Sinner wants to put behind him a complicated week both on and off the court and try to go a long way in Cincinnati.
