After withdrawing at the WTA 1000 in Toronto, Anna Kalinskaya è returned to the court in the WTA 1000 in Cincinnati and did so with a fine comeback victory. After a first set dominated by Siniakova, which she won 6-1, Kalinskaya had a great reaction in the second partial, in which she strung together a streak of four consecutive games and closed it 6-2, putting everything off until the third and decisive set.
After an exchange of breaks in the opening set, the Russian also took the lead in the third set until 5-2. Here Kalinskaya failed to convert two match-points, only to cede service to her opponent. The reaction of the thirteenth seed on the scoreboard è però immediate: counter-break to zero that was worth the victory.
The fiancée of Jannik Sinner, who is engaged in the men’s draw against Alex Michelsen of the United States, thus advances to the second round of the Cincinnati Open, where she will face Paula Badosa, world number 23.
