Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini’s run in the women’s doubles draw in Cincinnati stopped at the quarterfinals. The two Olympic champions were beaten by Linda Noskova and Diana Shnaider at the end of three hard-fought sets in about an hour and a half of play.

Sparkling start of the Azzurri who forfeited the first set with an excellent 6-3. In the second set, the Errani-Paolini duo alternates good plays with free errors, thus leaving the set to their opponents (6-4). It goes to the tie-break. The Noskova-Shnaider duo escapes on 8-6. Blue reaction but not enough to win the match: it ends 10-7 for Linda Noskova and Diana Shnaider who fly soì in the semifinals.

However, balanced match, solved only at the tie-break where the Noskova-Shnaider pair proved to be definitely more on the ball in the key points. A shame for Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini who, now, look to the US Open.

At this point, in Cincinnati, the only Italian still in the game è world number 1 Sinner who will try today to avenge the defeat suffered in Montreal against Andrej Rublev, his opponent for a place in the semifinals.
