Atalanta immediately shows its muscles: Lecce annihilated, Retegui and Brescianini relentless
Lecce-Atalanta 0-4
It's Atalanta's first away win, in order of time, of the 2024/2025 Serie A championship: the Orobici forget for one evening the market rumors regarding Teun Koopmeiners and Ademola Lookman (both not summoned by Gasperini) and impose themselves with a round 4-0 at home of Lecce, in a match that was never really in dispute.
The Atalantini's start was at a furious pace and there was no shortage of dangerous actions, such as those that, between 20' and 25', Charles De Ketelaere first and Davide Zappacosta then failed to turn into the net. The goal came, however, on 35': Falcone repulsed the ball hit by Retegui’s header, Brescianini è quick to anticipate Gendrey and deposit it over the goal line.
It's the beginning of the end for the Salentini, who at 45'capitulated again: a cross from Ruggeri's left side, this time Retegui adjusted his aim and netted his first official goal for the Nerazzurri with his head. The former Genoa man has a chance to repeat on 57', this time from the penalty spot (Coulibaly’s foul in the box on the same Italo-Argentine), but the Orobici are not satisfied and Brescianini signs the poker with his second goal on his debut as an Atalantino, taking advantage of Pasalic’s deep assist and a Giallorossi defense that is anything but airtight.
The last remnants of the match served only to slow the pace and avoid further efforts in this start of the season: Atalanta immediately won three points that propelled it to the top of the standings, and can look forward with confidence, market permitting, to the upcoming engagements in the league and Champions League.
