Yann Sommer says goodbye to the Swiss national team
Through an Instagram post, Yann Sommer said goodbye to the Swiss national team: "Dear Swiss Football. After careful reflection, I have decided to end my career as goalkeeper of the Swiss national team. It has been a great honor and privilege to represent my country at the highest level for 12 years and in 94 international matches. With the conclusion of another great European Championship in neighboring Germany, where I spent unforgettable years in the Bundesliga, è the time has come to say goodbye".
"The time spent in the national team meant a lot to me. I think back with pride to the many unforgettable moments: the exciting matches, the victories we celebrated together and the challenges we overcame together. The national team è been an important part of my life since I was 15 years old: from my beginnings in the U16 up to the U21, then ten years as number one, during which I played all the finals of the World Cup and European Championships. We reached the round of 16 four times and the quarters twice".
"These memories will forever hold a special place in my heart. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all my teammates, the entire staff, the coaches and of course my family, my personal staff and the Swiss fans. Without your support, trust and confidence in me, these successes would not have been possible. You have always given me the motivation to achieve the best possible performance".
Sommer concluded by talking about his Inter: "My focus now è all on my club, Inter, with which I still want to achieve a lot".
