US Open, no easy hurdle for Anna Kalinskaya toward round of 16
In the middle of the Italian night, Jannik Sinner’s fiancée, Russian world number 15 Anna Kalinskaya, will face Brazilian Beatriz Haddad Maia, number 21, for a place in the round of 16 of the US Open women’s singles.
A 28-year-old native of São Paulo, Haddad Maia as her best result in a Slam reached the semifinals at Roland Garros in 2023. Against Kalinskaya she has never crossed racket, in other words, there are no previous direct confrontations.
In her career, Haddad Maia è already entered the top ten, tenth from June 12-25, 2023, and has won three WTA major circuit tournaments, two on grass, in 2022 in Nottingham and Birmingham, and one indoor, the WTA Elite Trophy in Zhuhai in 2023.
A’far from easy opponent then for Kalinskaya, but the Russian wants to continue the climb up the WTA rankings that has seen her start the year as world number 80 to occupy the current number 15 position, her best ever.
Anna in 2024 reached her first WTA finals losing both, in the 1000 on the concrete of Dubai from Jasmine Paolini and on the grass of Berlin from Jessica Pegula. She also reached the quarterfinals at the Australian Open. In Dubai, on her way to the final, she even managed to beat world number 1 Iga Swiatek.
