Jannik Sinner trains with another number one
Anticipation is growing for Jannik Sinner's debut at the ATP Finals, scheduled Nov. 10-17 on the indoor concrete at the Inalpi Arena in Turin. Meanwhile, the world number one held his first training session at the Circolo della Stampa Sporting Training Center to prepare for his debut.
The South Tyrolean shared the court with another number one: Nicolai Budkov Kjaer, an 18-year-old Norwegian who leads the ITF Junior ranking. The Italian worked hard on the backhand diagonal with the 2006-born tennis player, who has not yet made his debut on the major circuit but already boasts the junior Wimbledon title and the final at the Us Open, also in the junior category.
Sinner’s coach Darren Cahill wanted to thank the Norwegian. "Thanks to Nicolai Budkov Kjaer for a great training session in Turin. And above all, congratulations for ending 2024 as world No. 1 in the junior category!" wrote the Australian coach in a post on his Instagram profile depicting the Italian and the Norwegian.
Following Novak Djokovic’s announced forfeit, the last three ATP Finals qualifiers Casper Ruud, Alex De Minaur and Andrey Rublev have also been finalized. With Alexander Zverev overtaking Carlos Alcaraz, Sinner could end up in the same round as the Spaniard. The draw è set for Thursday at 12 noon.
