WTA Finals, doubles: Jasmine Paolini and Sara Errani’s path gets complicated
Jasmine Paolini and Sara Errani defeated in the second round match
It becomes more difficult, but not impossible, Jasmine Paolini and Sara Errani’s path to the knockout stage of the doubles tournament of the WTA Finals in Riyadh: the two Olympic champions in fact lost the second match of the round, against Gabriela Dabrowski and Erin Routliffe, wasting a set lead and surrendering 1-6, 7-6(1), 11-9.
With the defeat on the supertiebreak, therefore, Paolini and Errani have to cede the lead precisely to the pair composed of the Canadian and the Australian: the challenge scheduled on Thursday against Taiwanese Chan Hao-Ching and Russian Veronika Kudermetova will be decisive for qualification.
Great regret, for the Versilia athlete and the Emilian veteran, for what happened especially in the second set: able in fact to come back from 1-4 managing to serve for the match on 6-5, the two Italian champions lost the momentum just on the most beautiful, losing the twelfth game and the next tie-break.
In the super tie-break Paolini and Errani also had a match point on 9-8, but a 0-3 split decided the match in favor of the two opponents of the day, leaving only regrets for the representatives of Italian tennis in the event dedicated to the best female athletes of the season.
