Eight previous ones, all won by Jannik Sinner

Jannik Sinner, in addition to the various records he has broken in these first dazzling years of his professional career, has redefined the concept of "black beast" when it comes to analyzing the precedents against Alex de Minaur, who will be his first opponent in the Group dedicated to Ilie Nastase of the ATP Finals in Turin: in fact, there are eight previous records between the two, all won by the current world number 1.

Four of these previous ones, by the way, have handed a trophy to Sinner himself at the end of their respective matches: we are talking about the 2019 Next Gen Finals, won by the South Tyrolean 4-2, 4-1, 4-2; the Montreal 2023 Masters 1000, with a two-sets-to-zero victory (6-4, 6-1); the decisive match of the 2023 Davis Cup, a 6-3, 6-0 victory with which Sinner sealed Italy's success; and the Rotterdam 2024 tournament, with Jannik able to prevail 7-5, 6-4.

The other four precedents, however, date back to the quarterfinals of the 2020 Sofia tournament, won 6-7(3), 6-4, 6-1, the round of 16 of the Australian Open 2022, 7-6(3), 6-3, 6-4, the round of 16 of the Madrid Masters 1000 2022, with the dinal score of 6-4, 6-1, and finally the round of 16 of the Paris-Bercy Masters 1000 2023, with Sinner victorious by withdrawal of his opponent.

Each match, of course, is a story in itself, and it will not be the precedents that will affect the level of play of one or the other athlete in Sunday’s challenge: however, the fact remains that, if nothing else, it gives hope to the fans of the San Candido-born champion, who is looking for a historic affirmation in Turin after the final lost last year to Novak Djokovic.
