Jannik Sinner beats De Minaur again: ‘There’s no better place to end the year’
Sinner gets off to a good start in Turin
A roaring crowd for its champion. The Inalpi Arena triumphantly welcomes Jannik Sinner, even before he enters the court. As early as 5 p.m., when the world No. 1 finishes warming up for a half-hour with the entire team on the Turin Central. Then the’entry on the court, the unconditional support of the public – enhanced by the presence of Jasmine Paolini, Lorenzo Sonego and Flavio Cobolli – and a carriage victory, without wasting too much energy that will be very useful later in the tournament.
Sinner goes 8 for 8 against De Minaur, who just can’t find a way to beat Jannik. And to say that he was even off to a better start for the Australian, finding a break at the start of the match thanks to a couple of Jannik’s volleys. Then it was enough forò: the world No. 1 immediately took back the reins of the match, got two consecutive breaks and went up 5-2, closing 6-3 the first set a little later. Also in the second there was little to add: Sinner dominates mainly with the backhand but in general plays too well and the difference between the two è increasingly evident.
It ends 6-3 6-4 in 1h25 for the South Tyrolean, who will now challenge Taylor Fritz: if he beats the U.S. and De Minaur wins against Medvedev Jannik would already be certain of first place in the round Tuesday night. “There’è is no better place than this to end the season”, admits Sinner at the end of the match.
