Last year, on the other hand, he made all the fans at Inalpi Arena and all of Italy dream. In the round robin he beat the Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas with a double 6-4, then Novak Djokovic 7-5 6-7 7-6 and finally the Dane Holger Rune 6-2 5-7 6-4.
Qualified with full points for the semifinals, he also defeated Medvedev 6-3 6-7 6-1 and in the finals found Djokovic, whom he could have ousted from the tournament by losing the’last match to Rune being already qualified, and instead succumbed to the Serb with a double 6-3.
