Mark Cavendish wins the'last race of his career
Mark Cavendish (Astana) won the last race of his career, imposing himself, obviously in a sprint, at the Criterium de Singapore-Le Tour de France.
The 39-year-old Briton è latched onto the wheel of Belgian Jasper Philipsen at the exit of the last corner before the final straight and triumphed with his arms raised ahead of Philipsen himself, Eritrean Biniam Girmay and Belgian Arnaud De Lie.
Mark Cavendish è born May 21 in Douglas, Isle of Man. A pure sprinter, a professional since 2007, he has won 166 races, è was world champion in Copenhagen in 2011 and, as far as monument classics are concerned, triumphed in the 2009 Milan-San Remo.
He participated in seven Giro d’Italia winning 17 stages, two Vuelta winning three stages, and 15 Tour de France. He holds the all-time record for individual stage wins in the French stage race, 35, one more than Eddy Merckx.
In addition, he has won the special points classification in all three grand tours: in 2010 at the Vuelta, in 2013 at the Giro, and twice ten years apart, in 2011 and 2021, at the Tour.
