Women’s Epee World Cup, Italy silver
Female Epee World Cup, Italy d'silver
Italy’s young women’s epee team won a valuable silver medal in the team event that closed the World Cup stage in Fujairah. With an unprecedented lineup, chosen by coach Dario Chiadò to launch on the big international stage in this beginning of the new quadrennium some athletes who had had less space in the last and triumphant seasons in the specialty, the azzurre showed off an outstanding performance, climbing on the second step of the podium.
Alessandra Bozza, Federica Isola, Lucrezia Paulis and Gaia Traditi picked up with personality the baton of the Olympic champions of Paris 2024 (Santuccio, Fiamingo, Rizzi and Navarria), disputing on the platforms of the Arab Emirates a competition of the highest level, not only for the fencing expressed but also for the character shown.
The beginning of the day, in fact, had been very tough: in the match of the round of 16, Italy suffered and fought point by point against Sweden, managing to win by only one decisive hit with a score of 41-40. From there on, the Italian girls managed to shift into high gear and first dominated Poland in the quarters, outscoring them 31-24, and then secured the certainty of a medal with an excellent semifinal in which they beat the United States of America 45-34. They’ve thus arrived at the last act against Estonia, which saw the blue team struggle from start to finish but come out beaten by a score of 34-45 but finishing with a beautiful silver medal.
For Alessandra Bozza, Federica Isola, Lucrezia Paulis and Gaia Traditi a well-deserved and valuable medal that thus closes with a splendid balance the first stage of the Women’s Epee World Cup in Fujairah for Italy of coach Dario Chiadò (represented in the UAE by staff masters Roberto Cirillo, Daniele Pantoni and Alfredo Rota), since Saturday had come the resounding double in the individual competition with the triumph of Sara Kowalczyk and the second place of the Olympic Giulia Rizzi.
For the women swordsmen (as well as the men) next appointment of the rainbow circuit from November 21 to 24 in Vancouver, Canada.
