Alexander Zverev-Carlos Alcaraz 7-6 6-4

Alexander Zverev also beats Carlos Alcaraz on the final day of the group stage of the ATP Finals. The world number two overcame the Spaniard, now arithmetically eliminated, in two sets (7-6 6-4) after nearly two hours of play and finished first in the John Newcombe group with three wins in as many matches, qualifying for the semifinals where he will find Taylor Fritz.

Complicated match from the very first bars for Alcaraz, who was forced to cancel as many as 6 break points in the first two turnovers. The Spaniard però saves himself and even cancels a set point in the 12th game dragging the first set to the tie-break. Here Zverev è the first to stretch the score (5-2), Alcaraz recovers with a couple of spells (4-5) but surrenders 7-5.

In the second set, the opening game è the one that doomed the world number three: Alcaraz saves another break point, but on the ninth Zverev manages to break the Spaniard’s serve. The German retains the break lead until the final 6-4 with which he files the case.

In the evening, the last match of the Newcombe group will see Andrey Rublev and Casper Ruud face off: the Norwegian needs only one set to qualify, while the Russian has to win in two sets conceding no more than 6 games to his opponent. What is è certain è is that whichever of the two qualifies will pass as second and face Jannik Sinner, who finished first in the Ilie Nastase group, in the semifinals.
