ATP Finals, Taylor Fritz: “I know what to expect from Sinner”
For the first time since 2006, the ATP Finals will again feature a U.S. finalist. 18 years ago it was James Blake’s turn, this year it’s Taylor Fritz’s: he’ll be challenging one of Casper Ruud or Jannik Sinner in Sunday’s final. “I played really well some important points, I pulled out some great serves and or played very aggressive”, tells the (almost) upcoming world No. 4. Unless Ruud wins the tournament, in fact, Fritz will end the season behind only Sinner, Zverev and Alcaraz. “I have always believed that I belong at this level and that I am one of the best” says Taylor.
Just against Zverev è came a very intense victory in the semifinals, the fourth consecutive against the German. “They were all hard-fought matches, Laver Cup aside. Today and at the US Open, for example, I felt that in the crucial moments I was able to prevail”. Should he face Sinner again, it would repeat for Fritz the same situation that happened to Jannik last year, who found himself facing Djokovic in the final after beating him in the round. Taylor obviously hopes that the’outcome will be the same: “the defeated player will know it’what to expect from the one who beat him”, admits the American.
“There could also be a psychological factor: one of the two feels like the’outsider, while the’other perceives himself as the big favorite. As for the audience, it è seemed to me throughout the week that I received a lot of affection. È it was extraordinary to feel the affection of the Italian fans. If I play against Jannik it will be different clearly, but even when I played against him in the rounds I found the audience very respectful toward me”, Fritz concludes.
