During an interview given to the microphones of the "Corriere dello Sport", Davis Cup director Feliciano Lopez, among other topics discussed, bluntly described the extraordinary 2024 experienced by Jannik Sinner. In his analysis, the former Spanish tennis player made no secret of the fact that he was impressed by the results achieved by the South Tyrolean, who has lost only six matches this season.
"This year Sinner has had a season out of all logic winning an unreal number of matches and more importantly losing only six over the season. There is no doubt, he deserves to be the number one in the world" began the'former Spanish tennis player.
"Another aspect that impressed me about Jannik è his ability to consistently keep the level of his tennis high. Everyone else has experienced ups and downs, but not him. If I think about it two years ago he was a different player, while today è a guy who is constantly thinking about improving, so I don’t know where he could go in the next few years if he continues with this attitude" continued the Davis Cup director.
"It's hard to predict how many Slams Jannik could win. It's something I get asked a lot about Alcaraz as well, and I say that for me definitely both Carlos and Sinner will get into double digits, say 14" added the Toledo native.
"Rafa è a special guy. Unfortunately, the choice of retirement è was partly forced. He would have liked to have had a full season this year, but plans did not go as he hoped. After the Olympics, he è took some time to reflect and chose Davis as the perfect stage to say goodbye to tennis played" commented Feliciano Lopez on Rafael Nadal's retirement.
