With the Drivers’ World Championship officially won by Max Verstappen, the last two races of the season will determine who will win the constructors’ title between McLaren and Ferrari, separated by only 24 points in favor of the British team. Ahead of the Qatar GP, Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz have spoken bluntly about their chances of making a comeback at the Lusail circuit.
"The fight with McLaren for the World Championship will go on until the end. I think they will be very strong in Qatar, we must have a good weekend. I would be very surprised if we make up points on them, but we have to try, so we will do our best. I expect però that it will be complicated" said the Monegasque driver to Ferrari’s official channels.
"In Qatar, the maximum could be a fifth or sixth place becauseé with this car on a track like that, I expect to struggle and I think McLaren and Mercedes will be very strong. Probably Red Bull will also be very strong, as they were also fast in qualifying in Austin, which è a track similar to Lusail. I think it will beà a very challenging weekend for us" these, instead, the words of the Spaniard.
In contrast to the two Ferraristi, Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri did not hide their confidence ahead of the Qatar event: "I am looking forward to going back to Qatar. Last year è it was a very good race for us and we aim to do even better this year. There will also be the last Sprint of the year, we will try to bring home as many points as possible. The track and conditions should be better suited to us than last weekend, so we will see what we can do.
Last year I was able to win the Sprint, so I am looking forward to seeing what we will be able to do this year. We only have two weekends to go and we know what we have to do. We will have to be stronger this weekend than we were in Las Vegas, keep our heads down and give it our all in the fight for the World Constructors".
