Estonian Paul Aron third Alpine driver in 2025
Paul Aron, 20, an Estonian national and currently fourth in the F2 championship, will be the reserve driver for the Alpine Formula 1 team in 2025, the Franco-British team announced on the sidelines of the Qatar Grand Prix. Aron is racing this year with the Hitech team in his first season in Formula 2.
"We are very happy to see Paul join us. There'è a generational renewal in Formula 1, as we are seeing with many young drivers making an impact when they arrive. We believe Paul is one of the best talents and we look forward to seeing him become an F1 driver", said Flavio Briatore, executive adviser to the Alpine team.
Still in the running for the title with two weekends left in the season, Aron è the second best rookie in the category after Brazilian Gabriel Bortoleto, who leads the championship and will race in F1 next year with Sauber. The Estonian è finished third in the F3 championship in 2023.
Australia's Jack Doohan, Alpine's 2024 reserve driver, è has been promoted to starter for the 2025 season. He will replace Esteban Ocon, leaving for the American Haas team, and will pair with the other Frenchman on the grid, Pierre Gasly.
