Ryggs Johnston makes a splash
Ryggs Johnston captured his first career title on the DP World Tour. In Melbourne, the Montana-born American è won the ISPS Handa Australian Open with an overall score of 269 strokes (65, 68, 68, -18), edging out Curtis Luck, second with 272 (-15), and Australians Marc Leishman and Jasper Stubbs, both third with 273 (-14).
A great feat for Johnston, a 24-year-old graduate of Arizona State University. In his second appearance on the DP World Tour, where he è landed through Qualifying School, he è managed to triumph, taking home a prize of 124,141 euros out of a total prize pool of 1,050,000.
It had been since 2016, when Jordan Spieth succeeded, that a U.S. player had not won the Australian Open.
Filippo Celli è failed to break into the Top 20 because of an uninspiring final round: he finished 27th with 282 strokes (66, 71, 74, -5).
