Selvarolo wins Torino City Marathon

The Torino City Marathon colored the streets of the Piedmontese capital. Pasquale Selvarolo, who on his marathon debut won in a remarkable time (2h11’13”) celebrated. But so did the nearly 10,000 runners at the start. An endless beat of hearts and feet.
Torino City Marathon (42.195 km), Torino City Half Marathon (21.097 km) and Torino City Run (about 5 km): a menu capable of attracting runners of all levels, but also those who wanted to enjoy the city streets closed to traffic by simply walking. The numbers speak for themselves: 3,500 registered in the marathon, 2,500 in the half-marathon, and 3,367 in the cross-city, some with timekeeping and some not. With the percentage of foreigners reaching 27 percent, with 80 countries from all over the world represented.
Italian Pasquale Selvarolo (G.S. Fiamme Azzurre) handed the Turin Marathon back to an Italian after Giuseppe Gerratana won in 2022. Among women, the fastest è was Kenyan Rael Cherop Boiyo in 2h33’51”. Excellent second the’Olympic Catherine Bertone in 2h39’01”.
In the half-marathon, René Cuneaz (G.S. Parco Alpi Apuane) in 1h 06’47” and Laura Restagno (Atl. Mondovì Acqua San Bernardo) in 1h20’52” took the top step of the podium.
Pasquale Salvarolo built his victory kilometer by kilometer. After experiencing the first part of the race in second position trailing Jonathan Akankwasa, the Apulian athlete at 33° km decided to attack the Ugandan. He pulled away from him keeping the lead of the race to the finish line and stopping the clock at an excellent 2h11’13”.
“È my first 42 km, I didn’t know what to expect. I knew I had prepared well, but theory and practice don’t always match. I am very happy that I ran faster the second part and arrived tired but not destroyed. On Nov. 8, I turned 25, this è the greatest gift I could give myself”, Selvarolo’s words.
Akankwasa è won second place in 2h15’58” Kenyan John Kioi Mungai third in 2h17’15”.
