Still super Italy in parallel snowboarding

Maurizio Bormolini triumphs in the parallel slalom in Mylin (China) and Gabriel Messner follows him on the podium, third: Italy confirms itself as the absolute protagonist of parallel snowboarding and, on the heels of Edwin Coratti’s success in Saturday’s giant slalom, keeps possession of the highest step of the podium.

A triumphant ride that of the 30-year-old from Livigno, at the fifth career success in the maximum circuit, the fourth in slalom: after the second place in the qualifying round, the bearer of the Cs Esercito overtook in the order the home favorite Ye Bi, the Canadian Arnaud Gaudet and the Slovenian Tim Mastnak, to then impose himself at the end of the heated duel with the Austrian Benjamin Karl, preceded by only five hundredths of a second.

“I opened 2024 by winning in Bad Gastein, now I have also taken away this satisfaction – were the words of the Livignasian as soon as the race was over – These were heated challenges, especially the final with Karl, and I hope to experience more such moments in the coming months. Of course è it was another great day for our team”.

And next to him on the podium was Gabriel Messner, making his debut in the spotlight: never better than seventh, the 27-year-old Val Gardena native of the Carabinieri experienced the best day of his career in Mylin to seize his first personal podium. Successes over Germany’s Elisa Huber in the round of 16 and Austria’s Matthäus Pink in the quarters led him to a semifinal loss to Karl. In the ensuing final for third place, Messner was able to edge out Masnak to thus complete the Italian triumph. Daniele Bagozza’s path had stopped in the quarters instead, fifth and overtaken by Karl himself, winning in the round of 16 over Roland Fischnaller, 14th.

Eliminated in qualifying instead were Aaron March (26th), Marc Hofer (27th) while Mirko Felicetti and Edwin Coratti did not complete the test.

Victory for Austrian Sabine Payer instead in the women’s slalom: the red-and-white got the better of Japan’s Tsubaki Miki in the final, with Switzerland’s Julie Zogg surprising Czech Ester Ledecka for third place.

It was precisely the Bohemian champion who had interrupted in the quarterfinals the path of Jasmin Coratti – seventh – with Elisa Caffont (12th) out instead in the round of 16 against Claudia Riegler. Not qualifying in the Chinese morning were Elisa Fava (23rd) and Lucia Dalmasso, who was disqualified

The Circo Bianco now remains in China and will move from Mlyn to the Olympic resort of Yanqing in the coming days for the second seasonal World Cup stage, which between December 7 and 8 will offer another double challenge of giant slalom and slalom.
