F1, nerves jump: total clash also between Horner and Wolff
Formula 1 controversy reignites: Mercedes and Red Bull are back to clashing like in the old days of the duel between Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen. After the heated confrontation between the four-time world champion driver and George Russell, the team principals of the two teams, Chris Horner and Toto Wolff, also got into a bitter spat on Thursday in Abu Dhabi, before the last round of the World Championship.
Russell had accused in a press conference Max Verstappen of threatening him in Qatar, and in response the Dutchman branded him a "loser" who makes up accusations. Horner also attacked Russell very harshly: "He's been quite hysterical that weekend, and the penaltyè was based on that".
"The penaltyà to Max è was a very strange decision, both Max and George were in their slow laps. I got the impression that George and Mercedes made a big deal out of it-I think Max was disappointed by it, and if you look at it objectively, you can also think that George was driving a little bit too fast on a slow lap with two slow cars in front of him. Maybe he was the one who was driving recklessly".
Toto Wolff responded very harshly to his colleague in front of reporters present in Abu Dhabi: "If this is about the drivers, I don’t want to get involved in this. On the other hand, if the other team principal calls George hysterical, for me you cross the line. His forte is certainly not intellectual psychoanalysis: how dare he comment on the mental state of my driver? But thinking about it, I spent 90 seconds thinking about it and responding to that little terrier who always barks …".
