Luciano Spalletti bluntly on the future of the national team
Luciano Spalletti exposes himself
Speaking on the sidelines of an event organized in Coverciano by the Italian Football Federation, Luciano Spalletti spoke about the future of the national team, in particular about the goal of returning to the final stage of a World Cup after two consecutive failures to qualify, which forced fans in the Bel Paese to watch Russia 2018 and Qatar 2022 without being able to cheer for the blue colors.
Asked about the need to return to the rainbow stage, Luciano Spalletti did not mince words: "We have to live up to the mission we have undertaken,” he said.
The national team jersey è special, think about when we go abroad and how many people follow us, maybe even standing for hours waiting for the bus to pass by.
"We have to deserve the applause and all the affection and that we receive. It's an incentive to continue working in the best way possible" added Spalletti, who will lead the Azzurri in the qualifying round that will be drawn on Dec. 13 and will take place between March and November 2025.
Italy’s last participation in a World Cup was in 2014, when the event was held in Brazil: placed in Group C, the Azzurri then led by Cesare Prandelli won their opening match against England 2-1, but went on to lose 1-0 to both Costa Rica and Uruguay, thus missing out on advancing to the round of 16.
