Sampdoria, an outsider pops up to replace Sottil
Sampdoria: Semplici favored, but an outsider pops up
These are feverish hours at Sampdoria: after the dismissal of Andrea Sottil, in fact, the management is working to find a new coach: although the favorite remains Leonardo Semplici, in the last few hours a new hypothesis has made its way, linked to the name of Aurelio Andreazzoli. For the 1953-born coach it would be a return to B just under two years after his last experience.
Andreazzoli è returned from two seasons ended prematurely: in February 2023 he resigned as coach of Ternana, in Serie B, while in January 2024 he was exonerated by Empoli. Samp would also represent an important challenge to boost his own odds in the coaching market.
In any case, as reported by the 'Secolo XIX', the first choice still seems to be Semplici, although the 57-year-old Florence-born coach has taken some time to reflect on the situation, which sees Sampdoria close to the playout zone after sixteen days of the championship, with the last success dating back to Oct. 27 (1-0 at Mantova).
The possibility of a step back and a return to Andrea Pirlo, on the Blucerchiati bench until the third day before his exoneration, and still under contract with the club, remains alive, although it is quite faint. The management is expected to clear its reserves in the coming hours, also because the next round, scheduled for Saturday against Spezia, is approaching.
