World Cups 2030 and 2034, venues chosen
World Cups 2030 and 2034, venues chosen
Now è it is official: the 2030 World Cup will be played in Spain, Portugal and Morocco, with some matches in South America (Argentina, Urugay and Paraguay); four years later it will be the turn of Saudi Arabia to host the World Cup. The decision è was made at the end of an extraordinary FIFA congress.
World Cup 2030 will be the Centennial World Cup, 100 years after the first World Cup was held in Uruguay. Although South America had withdrawn its bid, FIFA has granted the organization of the first three matches of the edition in Uruguay, Paraguay and Argentina.
This is a historic achievement because World Cup 2030 will involve three different continental confederations: CAF with Morocco, UEFA with Spain and Portugal, and CONMEBOL with Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay).
In 2034, however, the World Cup will be held in Saudi Arabia, the only federation to have put forward its bid. The 2034 edition will be the first 48-team World Cup organized in a single country. It remains to be seen when it will be held: scorching summer temperatures could postpone the competition in winter, as happened in Qatar in 2022.
