World Cup qualifiers, Italy's opponents depend on Nations League
È the draw of the qualifying rounds for the 2026 World Cup, which will be held in North America, distributed among Canada, the United States and Mexico, was made in Zurich.
Italy will play either in Group A or Group I and this will depend on the outcome of the Nations League quarterfinals that the Azzurri will play against Germany.
Should they beat the Germans, Luciano Spalletti’s national team will play in Group A with three opponents: Slovakia, Northern Ireland and Luxembourg.
On the other hand, should they be defeated, the Azzurri would be placed in Group I, where there would be four opponents, namely Norway, Israel, Estonia and Moldova.
This is Spalletti’s comment: "You go to play to always win; you don’t make calculations. If you approach the games in the right way, then there are no regrets".
"Italy that wins against Germany will definitely be a’stronger Italy than the one that loses. In the processes of growth, it becomes essential to bring home good performances and victories to become stronger".
