Dino Zoff and the Serie A goalkeepers: the Azzurri legend picks one name out of all
Dino Zoff crowns Marco Carnesecchi
Receiving praise from one of the legends of Italian soccer è an honor that is often worth as much as a trophy won on the field: he can boast of it, from today, Marco Carnesecchi, Atalanta’s extreme defender, among the protagonists of the Nerazzurri’s ride that led the club to first place in Serie A and to dream big for the second half of the season.
"Carnesecchi è the goalkeeper who has made the most progress in the last two years, he has given confidence and determination to the defense" said, without mincing words, the captain of the 1982 World Cup winning expedition, a reference point for many generations of goalkeepers, including that of those born in the early 2000s to which Carnesecchi himself belongs.
Taken from Atalanta already at the youth level, after playing for Cesena, Carnesecchi did not immediately make a name for himself but had to face a path that led him on loan first to Trapani and then to Cremonese, where among other things he won promotion to the A 2022/2023.
Returning to base at the beginning of last year, he è alternated in the number 1 role with Juan Musso, winning the Europa League precisely as the Argentine's backup. With Musso’s transfer on loan to Atletico Madrid, Carnesecchi è became the regular starter in Gasperini’s team, often making himself a key player in this first part of the season full of positive results for La Dea.
