Ezio Simonelli è the new president of Lega Serie A. The Macerata-based accountant succeeds Lorenzo Casini thanks to 14 votes obtained at today&#39s meeting, held at the headquarters in Via Rossellini in Milan.

In the first assembly, held last Dec. 9, Simonelli had garnered 13 votes, insufficient to reach a quorum. The 14 at Friday&#39s assembly on Dec. 20, however, guaranteed him the new role of Lega Serie A president, beating out competition from the last two presidents, Dal Pino (12 votes) and Casini (11 votes), respectively.

Born in 1958, Simonelli è holds a degree in economics and business from the University of Perugia. In the role of accountant, he worked with Silvio Berlusconi, becoming president of Mediaset Italia Spa. Simonelli had already tried twice to be elected president of Lega Serie B, but was defeated by Maurizio Beretta in 2013 and Mauro Balata in 2021, respectively.

"Best wishes for a good job to Ezio Simonelli, a serious and passionate person whom I hold in high esteem,” said FIGC president Gabriele Gravina, in the words reported by Gazzetta dello Sport. His election represents an unquestionable sign of newfound harmony and serenity within the A League, the current proactive climate will certainly favor a new season of collaboration with the FIGC and all the federal components, with the aim of developing all the potential of Italian football".
