Matteo Berrettini, backstory on doubles with Jannik Sinner

Matteo Berrettini brought the Davis Cup, won with Italy last Nov. 24 in Malaga, to Circolo Canottieri Aniene. "Every time I enter here at Aniene I am excited, è like coming home,” he admitted to the microphones of Corriere dello Sport. I first came here a good 14 years ago".

"Davis? I wanted it so much. I had a lot of desire to play both singles and doubles,” added the Roman. “I was ready and, although I was alongside Sinner, the tension was so great. I thought: if I lose the doubles next to the world number 1 they will blame me (laughs). Jannik? È reason for pride to have him on the team, his season è was crazy, I always try to steal something from him with my eyes".

In addition to the Davis triumph, Berrettini won three ATP 250 titles in 2024: Marrakech, Gstaad and Kitzbuhel: "An important year, in which I found the right feelings again, the desire to train, to compete, both in wins and defeats. After years that were a bit dark, I found my smile".

"È it has been an intense period, I have been training with great desire. I don&#39t know what to expect from 2025, definitely a lot of tennis, giving me joy and making me smile. I can&#39t wait to play the Australian Open, Slam that I could not play because of injury last year. I want to do well" concluded Berrettini.
