John Isner surprised by Jannik Sinner
During a talk on the well-known podcast "Nothing Major", former U.S. tennis player John Isner, among other topics, dwelt on the extraordinary 2024 experienced by Jannik Sinner, culminating in his reaching the top of the ATP Ranking.
I was a bit surprised to see Sinner end the season as world number one. I thought Carlos Alcaraz would get there. This represents very good news for tennis in general on the men's side because the Spaniard will want to regain the top spot, while Jannik will try to push to keep his rival away. Both will continue to push and improve each other and this will beà fantastic for our sport" began the former American tennis player.
"I was convinced that in the end it would be Carlos who would end the season on top only becauseé before this year he had been the only one of the two to win Slams. Jannik had not won any yet and I did not think he would be able to win even two in 2024" added John Isner.
Waiting to make his official return to the court, Jannik Sinner began his 30th week as world number one by moving closer and closer to rival Carlos Alcaraz, who holds the 16th all-time number one spot with an impressive 36 weeks.
