Gasperini’s words

Gian Piero Gasperini spoke to SportMediaset after the Italian Super Cup semifinal between Inter and Atalanta: "We have had many challenging matches, we came here for the Super Cup and it was the right time to check many players who have played little and had had few chances. We were playing against Inter in the semifinals and it was the right time.

"In the second we created several situations, then there were unlucky episodes. The first goal doesn&#39t exist: the corner kick that isn't there, there's a position of De Vrij in front of the goalkeeper and a clear foul on Scalvini who fails to jump. Too many episodes in the same action, but having said that when you go under it becomes more difficult. For us è it was an excellent experience". 

"We did not snub anything, we tried to win and we met a very strong team. We had to make fewer mistakes, like in the second goal. We created goal chances, some glaring ones like Scalvini’s, then mistakes favored a strong team like Inter. They can&#39t play CDK and Lookman 56 games for 90'…it&#39s not that I put on Primavera players: I put on first team players who rarely played from the start like Brescianini, Samardzic and Zaniolo. I hoped to stay in the game and play with the changes, that was the strategy but the guys didn&#39t demerit. I also wanted to try Scalvini again in midfield, è a department where we are fewer in number and for me è it was a good test. It had been months since he played, for me è he was fundamental". 

"The boys must have value, I try to bring out the best and give them confidence by making them play games like these as well. Inter è one of the best in Europe: playing like this and seeing that you can do something more and that you have done some things well certainly gives you confidence", he concluded.
